I Believe in Santa Claus
When my children ask me if Santa Claus is real, I typically return their question with a counter question, “What do you think?”
Honesty has always been very important to me, so I don’t take this question lightly. Obviously we know that Santa Claus the “who” may not physically exist, but have you considered the existence of Santa Claus the “what”?
Santa Claus the “what” represents the beautiful relationship between giving and receiving, the Spirit of Christmas. This Spirit can be encountered in the form of forgiveness, helping those in need, merriment made with others, singing songs of joy and celebration, donating to those less fortunate, setting aside differences, extending an extra gesture of kindness, giving thoughtful gifts to those you love, and receiving the love and kindness back into your own being.
It’s also important to remember the hope that grows into a burning flame when the natural flow of giving and receiving is strong. We might even call the expression of this flame of hope “health”.
I see Santa Claus, Mother Nature, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and more mythical bringers of change (which is the essence of life) living through the spirit of hope and healing, giving and receiving.
To break it down to the Christian origins of the Christmas holiday, God gave his only Son as a bringer of salvation for all people. The “magic” happens when we receive the good news that is offered to each man and woman, and allow the flame of hope to burn brightly within us.
From the perspective of a business owner and Doctor of Chiropractic, when a patient comes to me asking for help and will truly receive what is being offered (adjustments, nutritional counseling, exercises and stretching advice, and more), that’s when we at Mind and Body truly experience miracles. These miracles extend beyond the Christmas season. We encounter them on a daily basis, observing the innate wisdom of the body to heal and adapt when there is a balance of giving what the body needs and receiving the support to express vibrant health.
May you all experience the Spirit of the season and the magic that comes from giving and receiving.
As for me, I believe in Santa Claus.
